What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad is a national STEM competition where teams of 15 students compete in 23 events covering topics such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, engineering, and more. Events range from knowledge-based tests to hands-on building events and laboratory practicals.
Students work year-round to master their assigned events, conducting research, building devices, and studying scientific concepts in depth. This preparation culminates in regional and state tournaments, where teams compete for rankings and the opportunity to advance to the national tournament.
Beyond academic achievement, Science Olympiad develops crucial 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, collaboration, time management, and scientific communication. Many alumni credit their Science Olympiad experience with inspiring their career paths in STEM fields.
